So I picked up the new hotness last night, I was looking at this car last week (as documented here !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! )
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
And boy, is she a beauty: (apologize for crappy cellphone photos)
It's a 1978 242 with a 16V DOHC B234/230 swap. The entire suspension has been replaced with coilovers in front and sport springs in back. Almost all of the work was done by Cameron from ipd who documented it in a giant build thread here:

Here is a video talking about the swap:
I'm pretty excited. I'm not planning on doing much to it for now, this is a weekend cruiser for me for the foreseeable future. At some point I'll probably work on the interior a bit and maybe have it repainted (still beige of course). Now I just need to hope it passes Texas safety inspection...

Needs less roof... and more Lionel Richie...

Oh I still remember when you did that! Must've been a ton of fun!

It was a blast. I am actually kinda mad that I sold the car, to be honest. I currently don't have a project car to be working on, and it would have been fun to have it around to tinker with.

Congrats on your purchase!
No plans on taking it autocrossing or to track days? It might need a little bit more stiffness (the omission of installing a front strut brace worries me a little on a car with that much more power than stock), but you've definitely got yourself a potentially fast (and fun) car!

Killer!

Good for you man. That is a great looking car. What a nice swap.

I'd like to autocross it if I get the chance. The steering is VERY heavy at slow speed so it could get interesting. The seller provided a tower bar that is sitting in the trunk right now. Its not exceptionally fast, probably 160hp at the crank but still fun and tons of potential if I want to put some money into it later

I love these. Junk those stock seats though, that material doesnt hold up well to anything. I had a 2.1 auto 242dl that was slow as hell, but still a fun whip. + I have a set of Hydra center caps if you need em, black logo

its REALLY beautiful. I do love that colour matched and simplified engine bay. It really highlights the angle of the engine. A nice pickup!

Wouldn't be any more Jalop unless it was a wagon. Cool purchase, looks like a fun car. Definitely has a lot of personality.

Yeah the documentation and who was doing it was the main reason why I felt comfortable buying it.

Yeah the guy who built it was pretty anal about the shave and tuck

Any recommendations on seats? Price on center caps?

Let me dig em out and make sure they arent galled up. If they aren't I will send em to you for shipping. Tough one on the seats since it is 2 door, I sold mine before they got too bad. If noone is going to sit in the back throw in some later grey cloth 240 seats or maybe find a black set from a 780 Bertone. I did find an OE armrest that matched that semi corduroy that was awesome though, very mercedes like

Don't forget about diesel ;)
But yeah, I wanted something a little more unique. It fits really well in Austin too, well with the exception of the lack of air conditioning. Not going to be my summer car.

I'm so jealous.. I really want a 240 (or 242) but they never show up.
Enjoy and if you ever want to sell it to me...
